Boys Town officials stated Monday in a press release that the organization will close sites in New York, Texas, and California this summer.

"The move comes as part of the strategic planning process that looked at the ability of programs to have a meaningful impact in the community and have long-term financial viability," said Bob Pick, Boys Town's executive vice president of youth care. "The decision is also based on what is best for the kids and families served by Boys Town and the long term direction of the organization in order to devote more resources to research and innovation."

The press release also alludes to other causes for the change, stating: "The environmental or regulatory issues within these states are making it too difficult to adhere to the Boys Town Model of Care, achieve lasting results, or make a meaningful impact in the community."

Boys Town will attempt to retain its staff from these locations, the release states.

"We hope as many of these employees as possible can transition into other positions at another one of our Boys Town locations," the release states.

Staff leaving the organization will receive severance packages, according to the release.
