People who live near Creighton University are urging students to be good neighbors and for landlords to do a better job of watching their properties in the Gifford Park neighborhood. They said loud parties all hours of the morning leave debris and garbage all over the place.

“A new set of kids have come in who have redefined partying and noise,” said Gifford Park resident Robert Benzel.

The houses behind him have Creighton students coming and going according to Benzel and the landlord he thinks doesn't care about city codes.

“It becomes a great big party scene and there have been parties in the 3-400 hundred range.”

Benzel said he's contacted Creighton University and the Omaha Police Department on a constant basis and he said they do little to nothing about the problem.

3 News Now spoke with a couple of the Creighton students who live in the houses and they say the parties don't get out of hand, “we like to keep it clean around here but you know obviously some people have some issues but we like to resolve those the best way possible.”

The Gifford Park Neighborhood Associations said they know this is a re-occurring problem in the area.

“After those parties there’s usually trash beer cans all over the yards,” said Gifford Park Neighborhood Association Vice President Eric Purcell, but said there’s little they can do, “it's their property they have the rights to there's not a ton we can force.”

So for now these neighbors will have to work it out on their own.

“We're all willing to help here we're just good people and we have to live together however that works out,” said a Creighton student who did not want to be identified.

“I love this house, I love my life but if I had to do it over again I don't think I would have moved here,” said Benzel.

3 News Now did reach out to Creighton for a response so far we have not heard back.
