An Omaha paraprofessional was recognized as the best in the state.
Tammy Welch is an educational assistant in District 66 at Westside Middle School.
He was nominated by the mother of a student with autism; she said Welch is compassionate, and goes above and beyond.
Welch lost her son, who also had special needs, and said her chosen occupation is her way of honoring her son's memory and giving back.
