Update: According to a release from Omaha Police received at 12:39 p.m., the elderly man hit by a vehicle at 34th and L Streets Thursday morning has died in the hospital.
The victim was identified as 79-year-old Carl R. Schneider and the driver was identified as 47-year-old Jose F. Ayala Reyna.
An investigation is on-going.

An elderly man is recovering in the hospital Thursday after being hit by a car near 34th and L Streets.
Police say the man was crossing the street, but was not in a marked crosswalk, when he was hit just before morning rush hour.
His injuries are considered very serious.
Doug Klein of the Omaha Police Department said that to his knowledge speed or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
