The metro has seen quite a bit of rain in the past week and it is starting to cause some problems. With Memorial Day right around the corner, the rain could put a damper on some outdoor fun.
“The rivers and streams do have some high water from all the rain we have been having,” said Assistant General Manager for the Papio-Missouri Natural Resource District., Marlin Peterman.
They are watching water levels going into the holiday weekend and are keeping a close eye on the Elkhorn River, which is closed right now.
“It is about two feet above right now, we like to see the river below five foot stage,” said Peterman.
3 News Now Meteorologist Jennifer Zeppelin said there has been about five inches of rain in the past week, and May can be the wettest month, “When you get that kind of rain day after day, after day, after day, it is a lot and the ground cant soak it up.”
Peterman says the lakes might be a better place to be this weekend, but even Lake Zorinsky had a trail blocked off due to some flooding.
It will be a waiting game to see how much rainfall we get the rest of the week and how that will impact the holiday weekend.
