For about a month an Omaha organization that helps the homeless didn’t know if a diamond ring was a donation or put there on accident. Friday the mystery is solved.
In the last month, the Heartland News found a diamond ring inside one of their buckets while collecting donations outside a metro area Wal-Mart.
Friday, Heartland News President M, A, Yah met with local Wal-Mart officials who had received a letter and explanation of why it was a donation and not a mistake. A money gram for $100 was included.
Yah says the touching note shows that people really care.
“His uncle had just passed away March 3rd, and the ring was given to him to do whatever he wanted to do with it. He said he met me before some of the workers before and he liked what we were doing and liked the conversations he was having with us so he wanted to give it to us so we could help the homeless,” M,A, Yah explained. “I want to continue to do what I’m doing and touch more people.”
The Heartland News helps the homeless and unemployed get themselves out of poverty by selling the street paper. Yah taught himself how to read and write while he served time in prison years ago.
He wants to publicly thank the person who made the generous contribution.
