The Omaha Police Department along with the Omaha Fire Department are looking into a rare burglary-fire on 46th and Oak Streets.

OPD said they received a call at 10:57a.m. Thursday about a burglary. Once crews arrived they located the burglary suspect inside, they describe him as a white male, wearing a red shirt and blue hat, identified as Timothy Horvath. Police said Horvath broke a window and jumped out of the house.

When officers entered the house they saw smoke coming from a bedroom and called the Omaha Fire Department.

This unique incident caught the eyes of many neighbors, one of them Tom Shanahan who caught the burglary-fire with his phone.

"I seen a bunch of cop cars coming and pulling up here they all start stopping so I just start walking down here and see what was going on and pretty soon they pulled the guns out and they had a dog too," said Shanahan.

He recalls seeing Horvath coming out of the house and being taken into custody, "Right after that the guy came out they cuffed him and then all heck broke loose, fire trucks rescue trucks and all that.”

While a fire is unique in this area, Shanahan said burglaries are not.

"They got my house, that house and that house the same day about two years ago and so everybody’s been trying to watch more," said Shanahan, "Everybody tries to watch around here now because of that and I’m betting that’s what happened somebody watched and called in.”

Horvath was taken to Nebraska Medicine for minor injuries.

The house is vacant, the daughter of the older couple who used to live here tells 3 News Now her parents passed months ago and hopes some of the items inside can be salvaged.

This incident is still under investigation.
