A salvaged vehicle fixed up this past year by collision repair students found a new home Friday, to the delight of Metropolitan Community College student Damingo Burks.

"Every time I turn around, what I see is a smiling face with a Metro logo,” he said. “It has helped me."

Burks was given the keys to a 2010 Dodge Avenger as part of the Recycled Rides for Schools program. The salvaged car was donated to the program by Farmers Insurance, and local businesses donated parts for the repairs. Collision repair students replaced the rear quarter panel, and worked on the suspension, among other things

Burks said transportation was one of his biggest hurdles, affecting his class attendance and his ability to hold a job. The car, he said, would help him turn his life around and finish school.

"I feel like the effort they have made to help reinforce me as a student, it’s nothing but inspiring," he said. "You feel like you owe that to them."
