A Texas-based retailer is considering an offer for Gordman's to operate some stores and a warehouse that could save part of the bankrupt retailer from liquidation.

Our partners the Omaha World-Herald report Houston-based Stage Stores said in a filing with the federal Bankruptcy Court that it has explored a bid for a number of Gordman's stores. Under the offer, Stage Stores would assume a substantial number of Gordman's 100 stores in nearly two dozen states and offer employment to certain store and warehouse workers.

Other creditors of Gordman's have also filed papers asking the court to slow plans to quickly liquidate in a going out of business sale. Avoiding liquidation may be the best way to save up thousands of jobs including roughly 450 in Omaha.  Last week after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Gordman's told the Nebraska Department of Labor that it plans to close it's headquarters in Aksarben Village and a warehouse in Omaha in May.

Stage Stores operates some 800 stores under several names such as Bealls, Peebles, and Goody's in 28 states.
