Scam artists posing as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska representatives from Florida are signing up customers for discount insurance that appears to be fraudulent, the Nebraska Attorney General's office said Monday.

BCBSNE investigators say the scam is affiliated with a Hollywood, Fla., entity called Simple Health, which has been collecting victims' personal information on the phone by offering discount insurance plans and setting up monthly recurring transactions, according to a release from state AG Doug Peterson's office.

Nebraska consumers interested in purchasing insurance with BCBSNE should not call any number other than one available on BCBSNE’s official webpage, the release states.

"Simple Health victims have reported online that the company charges their credit card monthly, but never provides insurance cards or proof of coverage," the release states. "They also make it difficult to cancel service."

If you signed up for services with — or are being charged by — Simple Health, or otherwise believe you have been victimized by this scam, call the AG's Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-727-6432.
