Nearly two weeks out from the May 9th election, another mayoral candidate is getting a big boost.
As Monday marks the beginning of early voting for the general election, it’s also the same day Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will lend a helping hand to incumbent Mayor Jean Stothert.
The former Republican presidential candidate is expected to speak to about 200 people at a rally held at the D.C. Centre beginning at 4 p.m.
At last check, tickets are sold out.
In a released statement, the mayor says the governor and her share similar viewpoints and highlighted their efforts to create jobs, balance a budget and cut property taxes in their respective jurisdictions.
Walker is no stranger to Omaha, as he last visited the area back in July 2015 while running for president.
His return follows a boost for Stothert’s rival Heath Mello, who also received outside help from another presidential candidate: Vermont Sen. Heath Mello.
On Thursday, thousands filled Baxter Arena to hear Sanders speak.
With Election Day drawing near, both candidates are trying to rally up their supporters to produce a higher voter turnout than the primary. Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse predicted voter turnout for the race at 23 percent.
Only about three percentage points separated both candidates during the primary.
