You can see the new exhibit about the Omaha Police department at the Durham Museum when it opens Saturday for free.

The Durham partnered with the Omaha Police Department for a new exhibit, “Omaha Police: Answering the Call Since 1857,” in celebration of the department’s 160 year anniversary. Since 1857, the men and women of the Omaha Police Department have been keeping Omaha’s citizens safe.

The exhibit draws from the Omaha Police Department’s historic archive of original artifacts of uniforms and photographs. It includes a retired bomb robot, vintage firearms and the contents of an authentic crime kit. From the early days of patrolling on foot, to the establishment of a 9-1-1 phone line, to the high-tech equipment and training of today, the exhibit looks at how Omaha police serve and protect its citizens.

The exhibit opens Saturday May 13th. That day the Durham is free for admission. The event is called “Hanging with Heroes” to celebrate the opening of Omaha Police: Answering the Call Since 1857. You can visit with uniformed officers, explore the Able 1 helicopter, see a police motorcycle, cruiser and SWAT truck, and pet a Police horse.
