This Thanksgiving, many are grateful for their family.

To kick off the holiday, some Omaha Schools gave a chance for their students to have some extra quality time with their grandparents.

“We had a feast yesterday! You had a feast! Yes. In Kindergarten? Yes."

Michael and his grandma Vicky Whittry will spend thanksgiving together.

But the day before is extra special for the two.

"It gives me a chance to spend with just Michael,” Whittry said.

Instead of your 'Friendsgiving', grand friends and grandparents were invited to come visit their grandchildren's school.

Capitalizing on the families visiting from out of town and giving a chance for some quality time for families that may be busy stopping at a few spots on turkey day.

The day was full of crafts, some pictures, and grandma-grandpa chats.

Which of course covered the topics of what everyone was thankful for.

Most of all, for grandma Vicky. It's a little connection

“Quite often if I have the grandchildren there's more than one. So this is a very special time to spend with him,” said Whittry.

Before the craziness of the holidays that's around the corner.
