Omaha Westside High School announced the hiring of Jim Simons as the next boys basketball head coach.

Previous basketball coach Brian Nemecek is stepped down after being apart of the Westside's boy basketball coaching staff for 21 years.

Simons has worked with the Warrior basketball and baseball teams since 2000. He also teaches History and Civics/American Government at Westside.

"I'm extremely excited and honored to be selected for this position. We have several young, dynamic players in the program which should help provide a strong foundation for the future," Simons said. "I have a passion for Westside and look forward to continuing the strong tradition that has been set by Tom Hall, Dan Schinzel, and Brian Nemecek.  All three are coaches I have learned a great deal from and have an enormous amount of respect for.  Working the last 10 years for Brian has been a great learning experience that has prepared me for this opportunity.  Additionally, the opportunity to work alongside successful, veteran coaches like Doug Woodard and Tom Krehbiel during the last several summers coaching with the OSA Crusaders has also been an invaluable experience and I credit a lot of my development as a coach to those experiences.  We have several young, dynamic players in the program which should help provide a strong foundation for the future.  My goal is that we will approach every day with a tremendous amount of pride and discipline in helping our student athletes become the best they can be in every facet of their lives."
