Saturday marks "National Adoption Day" -- and November is "National Adoption Month. "
A special event with adoption proceedings was held Saturday at the Douglas County Civic building on Farnam street.
Thirty-nine children between eight months and seventeen years old were adopted during the event.
The adoption day fun included activities for the whole family: balloon animals, meet and greet with superheroes and Disney princesses, and face painting.
According to the Foster Care Review Office's annual report, 22 percent of child welfare cases in Nebraska closed in adoptions between 2017 and 2018.
