Douglas County is a step closer to taking control of an old building downtown in order to build a new juvenile justice center.

The County commissioners voted Tuesday to use eminent domain to obtain the historic building on 18th and Howard.

The building's owner Bob Perrin says he is in the process of redeveloping it into apartments or possibly office space. He had previously rejected the county's offer of $900,000.

The county and the owner of the building will come together again to potentially renogiate the price of the building. There are still several other elements of the potential $120 million juvenile justice center project that need be approved before the project itself is a done deal.
