After they were forced toevacuate their residence at the Yale Park Apartments last week, many refugees from Southeast Asia are having trouble finding new places to live.

Heartland Family Service says about 75 families have either applied for rent elsewhere or have a lead on a new apartment.

The goal is to have everybody out of two shelters in Omaha and into new places to live by the end of this week.

Additionally, the Omaha City Council plans to move forward with talks about a landlord registry. Council member Pete Festerson said he is calling a special meeting for Oct. 2.

He wants to start a conversation about requiring landlords to register with the City of Omaha and agree to regular inspections of their properties.

The move is in light of the displacement of residents at Yale Park.
