OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) With the holiday season here, it's not just about the gifts but also good food and great company.

It’s part of a long-standing tradition wedged between a balancing act of being generous while not overspending.

For wife and mom Jennifer Kellogg, it’s possible to blend the two together.

Kellogg is always looking for savings whether it’s a rebate or coupon, print or digital.

She estimates she’s reduced her monthly grocery spending from about $800 to less than $600 since becoming an avid couponer.

"I track all of my savings of what I paid for, the shelf price and which coupons I used in a spreadsheet," she said.

It sounds meticulous to hunt for bargains and log price comparisons, but Kellogg said those savings come in handy for big party dinners during the holidays.

She also likes to online shop for grocery store gift cards and save them for later.

Another tip she says: building up the stock pile in your pantry.

Kellogg is a firm believer in having go-to items such as pasta, rice, dressing and other non-perishable items.

Whenever she sees a great deal, she says, she snags the item and saves them for when she’ll need them.
