Nebraska Furniture Mart gave us a behind the scenes look at how they get ready for the big holiday.

Black Friday shopping has become a tradition for many families in Omaha.

"I will typically come out here on Thanksgiving evening, and I see the same faces every year," Corporate Security Manager Jim Cahill said.

Cahill says two of their biggest security concerns are theft, and safety.

"You as a customer, I want you to return," Cahill said. "I want to keep your prices low so here at Nebraska Furniture Mart, you know we have zero tolerance for theft."

Anyone caught stealing from the store runs the risk of getting their picture on their wall of shame.

"We want customer's business, but we only want honest customer's business," Cahill said.

Cahill says with the large crowds on Black Friday, being prepared for medical emergencies is also important.

"The store can get warm inside and typically what we would run into is maybe somebody getting overheated," Cahill said. "But you've got to remember how heavy traffic is that day so we have our own trained first responders."

In fact, Cahill says they've saved at least 3 lives in the past 5 years.

But, if you're someone who avoids leaving the house on Black Friday, shopping online might be the best option.

"Customer's time is limited especially during the holiday season," Omaha Store Director Scott Baker said.

Baker says customers who shop online can pick up items on the same day.

"As soon as you complete your order, our forklift operators go after it with the computer ... so while you're in transit we get your order ready."(Baker)

And if avoiding the lines all together is your goal, holding out until Cyber Monday is your best bet.

NFM won't open it's doors on Thanksgiving night, the Black Friday sales begin at 8 a.m. on Friday.
