OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Project Harmony is making trauma awareness its mission. It reveals 70 percent of adults in America experienced trauma in some way, at some point in their lives.
Following a citywide initiative from Mayor Jean Stothert, Project Harmony launched the ACE survey recently in the metro, which stands for Adverse Childhood Experiences.
The scale indicates the rougher your childhood is, then the more likely it is for your score to be higher. Therefore, the trauma experience puts you at risk for health problems later in life.
"With each adversity, [it's] more likely you're going to be at greater risk for things like heart disease, substance abuse, depression [and] suicide," said Jessica Kroeker of Project Harmony.
At last check, more than 1,700 people around the metro took the survey, according to the organization.
