It's a once in a lifetime trip for about 130 women veterans from Nebraska. They went to see the monuments in Washington, D.C. They returned to Omaha Monday night with stories to tell.
This is the first Honor Flight from Nebraska featuring all women. Hundreds welcomed the female veterans back at Eppley just after 9 p.m.. Some people waited for at least three hours after driving across the state just to be there.
The crowd gave these women from 53 Nebraska communities a loud and warm welcome home waving American flags, holding welcome home signs and singing "God Bless America"
It was an exhausting trip of a lifetime for these women which began very early Monday morning as they flew to Washington. While there the veterans visited all the popular war memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon Memorial and the Women's Memorial.
Veteran Jeannie Moorehart describes an emotional moment the group observed at Arlington. "We just happened to be there when they were honoring a soldier who had just died. The family came and when they gave them the wreath and they did the ceremony, oh it was tears to your eyes. They played Taps.. It was just fantastic "
This wasn't just Nebraska's first all female honor flight. It was the first of it's kind in the nation.
