3 Ways Social Media Finds Dogs Forever Homes

and last updated

It’s no secret there are millions of dogs with "no best friend," and social media is the newest tool for finding them forever homes. The List’s Teresa Strasser with three ways sites like Facebook and Instagram are helping.

1. Viral Videos

California-based rescue organization Hope for Paws uses videos to raise money and awareness to help find dogs forever homes. Founders Audrey and Eldad Hagar videotape the rescue and rehabilitation of stray dogs in Los Angeles and make videos to post on their YouTube and Facebook page.

2. Facebook

Colorado-based organization PawCo uses Facebook to sniff out good doggie owners. They are a foster- based rescue that has saved hundreds of dogs from high-kill shelters.

3. Instagram

Phoenix-based radio personality Johnjay Van Es uses his Instagram to match owners with dogs.

People message him when they can’t take care of their dog or if they’ve found a stray. He takes the dog to his house and once he knows they’re healthy he will post the dog’s picture to start the search.

“I only accept people that have lots of pictures so you can scroll through their life and see if they're good people...if they're sitting there drinking every night I don't give them a dog,” says Van Es.

Once a match is made, Johnjay take the pup to his normal drop off spot to introduce them to their new owner.

Matches made in social heaven.
