SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — A 22-year-old off-duty marine from Nebraska is under arrest after trying to enter Offutt Air Force Base two weeks ago while heavily armed, the Marine Corps tells our partners at the Omaha World-Herald.
Pfc. Ali Al-Kazahg of Milford reportedly brought two semi-automatic rifles, a pistol, a silencer, a bump stock, body armor and a case of ammunition to the base.
Aside from authorized security forces, it's illegal to carry weapons onto the base.
Our partners at the Omaha World-Herald say Al-Kazahg--who was home on leave--was stopped May 31 at Offutt's StratCom gate after guards there saw his name on a watch list of people who could be capable of doing harm.
Al-Kazahg is in custody at Marine Corps Base Hawaii near Honolulu, a Marine spokesman tells the Omaha World-Herald. He has not yet been charged.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service continues to investigate.
