OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A 30-year-old male has life-threatening injuries after losing control and being ejected from his vehicle Friday evening.
Officers were dispatched at 5:08 p.m. to I-80 E, east of 84th street, after reports of a personal injury crash involving a single vehicle.
Investigation shows a 2002 Dodge Caravan, driven by 30-year-old Davey Klavins, was heading eastbound on I-80 E. Omaha Police say the vehicle was driving erratically at a high rate of speed, making numerous lane changes.
After Klavins lost control of the vehicle, the Caravan left the road to the south and went down an embankment, through a drainage ditch and a chain-link fence--eventually coming to a stop on D St.
Klavins was ejected from the Caravan, sustaining a life-threatening injury to his head. He was transported to CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital by Omaha Fire Department medics.
Speed and lack of a seat belt are factors in the crash, OPD say. Klavins was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
