OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — As coronavirus cases come in throughout our area on Thursday, KMTV will update this story with the latest numbers. Check back often for updates. The latest updates will be posted at the top. You can find our full coronavirus coverage here.

NEBRASKA

SARPY COUNTY

  • To date, there has been a total of 2,531 Sarpy and Cass County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 out of the 34,467 tested.
  • There have been 14 COVID-19 related deaths, including two deaths this week.

DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

  • 93 new cases of COVID-19. That brings the total number of cases in Douglas County to 11,722 since the outbreak began in March.
  • During the past day the Health Department received two new death certificates related to COVID-19. A man in his 60s and a woman in her 80s sadly have passed. The total number of lives lost in the county from the pandemic increases to 142.
  • The county has confirmed 7,879s county residents have recovered from the illness.

LINCOLN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

A positive COVID-19 case has been discovered within Lincoln Southwest High School:

Southwest school families,

Following our protocols, we are writing to inform you there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at Southwest. Since we have been notified of the positive result, we continue to follow our protocols and work with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department on the contact tracing process. Through that process, anyone identified as a close, high-risk contact with the positive case will be called directly and given instructions on next steps.

Please note: If you are not directly called, then you are not considered a high-risk close contact. If you have any questions, please contact the LLCHD at (402) 441-8006 or your healthcare provider.

Due to privacy rules and regulations, the name of the person affected will not be released. We will continue to collaborate with LLCHD and follow their guidelines regarding the safety of students and staff.

COVID-19 is a contagious virus and spreads through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. As a reminder, the health department recommends everyone should be wearing face coverings, self-screening and monitoring for symptoms while in the community or at school. Should you develop or currently have any COVID-19 symptoms or answer yes to any of the questions below, please stay home and contact your healthcare provider.

Do you have any of the following?

  • Fever of over 100.4
  • Onset of shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New onset of dry cough
  • New onset of loss of taste or smell
  • Chills longer than two hours
  • Congestion and/or runny nose
  • Nausea, Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle Pain

Should your child develop or currently have any of the noted symptoms, keep your child at home and contact your healthcare provider, letting your provider know of a possible exposure to COVID-19. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, they should not return to school for 10 days from the onset of symptoms and be symptom-free for 72 hours without the use of medication.

In addition, if your child has had close contact with someone positive for COVID-19, or has been directed to self-isolate due to a positive COVID-19 result or for having contact with someone with COVID-19, please keep your child home.

LINCOLN-LANCASTER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

  • 31 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Lancaster County today, bringing the community total to 3,415.
  • The number of deaths in the community remains at 19.
  • Recoveries: up from 1,514 to 1,518

Overall positivity rate:

  • Lancaster County – remains at 6.7 percent
  • State – remains at 9.4 percent
  • National – remains at 9 percent
