OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Almost 100 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Iowa, along with one additional death.

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported on Wednesday that 97 additional positive cases of COVID-19 had been reported in the state, for a total of 1,145 positive cases.

A Linn County resident (age 81+) was also reported to have died, bringing the number of coronavirus deaths in the state to 27.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds addressed the state’s response to coronavirus in her daily news conference.

Reynolds said cases are expected to peak at the end of April.

“We are preparing for the worst but I am somewhat optimistic we still haven't peaked yet,” she said. “We're anticipating that at the end of this month. But again, only 10% are hospitalized right now. That's a fairly good number. The number that gives us a lot of hope is that the 38% of all positive cases have recovered.”

Reynolds said, over and over the last 7-9 days, they’ve seen the positive cases flatten out a bit and said that has been the goal all along.
