The Army Corps of Engineers has granted an easement for the Dakota Access pipeline to go under a North Dakota reservoir.
The granting of the easement comes a day after the Secretary of the Army notified Congress that it intended to grant the easement so the pipeline can be built under Lake Oahe. The easement covers approximately 1.25 miles of the pipeline that will run under the Missouri River along federally owned land.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has been fighting the pipeline, claiming it threatens the water supply and goes through sacred tribal land. The tribe has vowed to keep fighting the pipeline in the courts.
