Crash survivor is on the road to recovery

Posted

Two weeks ago Jeff Massey survived a motorcycle accident after police say a car pulled out in front of him.

Massey’s crash was one of  three in a 24 hour period, two other drivers did not survive.

Massey was able to walk out of Nebraska Medicine last week, and is fighting to get better every day after he was left with serious injuries.

“I have a broken left wrist and broken right arm, and I have a laceration that goes from my wrist to my elbow,” said Massey.

He also has a broken pelvis and a fracture in his back, but that isn't holding back his recovery.

“There is pain, it is hard, it's not easy, but there is always a choice, and I choose to get past it and recover as much as I can,” he said.

Massey is still in a wheelchair, and has crutches to use for stairs.

His fiancé, Michaela Ginn, said his recovery has been miraculous.

“He said I am not going to be 100%, but I will be 98 and it will be a great 98. So we lock hands and thank Jesus for what we have been given and focus on the positive, and the positive is he is still here,” said Ginn.

Massey said being able to spend time with his newborn baby and two other children through all of this has brought their family closer together.

Others have reached out to him to say how much his recovery has inspired them.

“It has inspired other people and if that what comes out of it then once again, I’ll gladly be the portal, I know I will get through it,” said Massey.

The biggest help has been the support from friends and family.

“It is overwhelming, I told Michaela I am trying to think of a way to thank everybody and there really isn't, and she just said, get better.”

Massey and Ginn both said that there is no way he will get back on a motorcycle.
