OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The jury selection process is expected to start Tuesday, the beginning of a Grand Jury process to decide whether to recommend charges in the shooting death of James Scurlock.
Back in May the 22-year Scurlock was shot and killed by business owner Jake Gardner.
Gardner claims he fired in self-defense.
It happened on the second night of protests in Omaha following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Special Prosecutor Frederick Franklin III will be in charge of the grand jury investigation.
He was assigned to the case after Douglas County attorney Don Kleine decided not to charge Gardner.
That decision sparked more protests in Omaha.
On Tuesday, signed were posted at the Omaha Civic Center advising news photographers not to shoot video inside the building where the Grand Jury is expected to convene. Grand Jury proceedings are conducted in private.
