3 News Now Assistant Chief Engineer Mike Gann became the 100th inductee into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame Tuesday night.
Gann earned his engineering degree from the University of Nebraska in 1974 and worked at KFAB for for more than four years before joining KMTV as a staff engineer in 1978.
"Engineers are the unsung heroes of the broadcasting business, and Gann personifies the best of his profession," the NBA announcement states.
3 News Now General Manager Larry Forsgren echoed those sentiments.
"Contributions to our profession by engineers are seldom recognized," he said. "In fact, I believe Mike is only the second engineer to be inducted into the Hall of Fame."
Among several qualities highlighted by the NBA: Gann doesn't hesitate to be helpful to anyone, even the competition.
"Mike was there the night KETV's tower collapsed," Forsgren said. "He helped get them back on the air by installing a temporary transmitter and antenna on KMTV's towers."
"Beyond his daily involvement with KMTV's towers, control rooms, cameras, live trucks and video streams, Gann is highly respected as a mentor to engineers throughout the region," the NBA release states. "Gann has been called upon countless times by colleagues, former coworkers and even competitors over the years due to his in-depth knowledge of RF engineering."
Gann will be officially inducted later this year alongside Roger Moody, general manager of KLKN-TV in Lincoln; and Dave Otradovsky (Dent), owner and general manager of KVSH-AM in Valentine. The three inductees are the 100th, 101st and 102nd members into the hall of fame, which was established in 1972.
