OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Wednesday morning, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and other officials held a press conference regarding coronavirus concerns, protocols and ongoing efforts to keep residents safe.

The Douglas County Health Center has suspended visitation to protect patients who could be at higher risk to get #coronavirus.

Mayor Stothert is now talking about public events that could possibly be cancelled due to the virus.

Mayor Stothert says at this point, we have not seen community spread and all people diagnosed have contacted the virus by travel.

MECA President Dixon - NCAA tournament is still scheduled to go on unaffected.

Mayor urges that sick people should not attend the NCAA tournament. MECA President Dixon says if the public was not allowed to attend the tournament, the city would take a huge financial hit.

The city is still waiting for recommendations from officials to see if the St. Patrick’s Day Parade should go on.

The Douglas County Health Department says that as of now, the #coronavirus test kits are free if it goes through the Nebraska Health lab. If more people become affected people may be billed for the test through insurance. No price point at this time.

The Douglas County Jail director Mike Myers says that all inmates are having temperatures checked. Masks may be worn in court, that’s still to be determined.

Omaha Fire Chief has just told us now that one fire fighter has been tested for #coronavirus. The firefighter transported a patient from Eppley. The test came back negative.

The mayor has told us that Omaha Public schools are trying to make a determination whether as to elongate spring break and close school for a longer period of time. That decision could come as soon as today.
