Crews are getting ready for a major street makeover near one of the city's busiest intersections.
Monday, they will shut down 84th street between Dodge and Pacific.
It’s part of a project expected to take much of the rest of the year.
Despite a lot of homes along 84th being affected by the project, neighbors we spoke with are largely indifferent about the coming construction, some are even optimistic about it.
Others will lose parts of their driveways and yards.
The $4 million project will completely reconstruct 84th street.
Once complete, there will be a new storm drainage system, with a new sewer and water main.
While Father John Schaefer of St. Andrews, on 84th and Pacific, isn't worried about the project, he worries about people who live along 84th.
Some won't be able to park in front of their homes during construction.
"I do feel for the people who actually live on the street,” said Father John Schaefer. “I think it will have much more of an impact on them than on us, personally."
Access to St. Andrews will be restricted during road construction and some of the church’s property will be lost.
Despite the sacrifices, Schaefer says having a modernized street is worth it.
The project is expected to be complete sometime in December.
