OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — One group is pushing to stop suspensions and expulsions for Pre-K through 2nd grade students saying those actions are doing more harm that good.
The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation hosted an event this weekend to bring light to that issue. They say schools should find other methods of helping young students with self discipline rather than suspensions and expulsions because it can lead to problems later in life.
"Those things have now caused more incarcerations as children are dropping out of school earlier because they lack the education that they need to really succeed in the school system," said Leo Louis, with the foundation.
They hope to get the attention of lawmakers to help eliminate those actions, and currently have a petition online if you're interested in learning more about it.
