"It feels like we are getting our community back and we are coming up, we are doing something with our community."
That's what a lot of people had to say today about the reopening of a popular eating spot and new grocery store.
"This is not only business for entrepreneurs but also providing jobs for people in the area."
Community members say Fair Deal had been around for years.
It was a popular food spot that was dubbed the Black City Hall by many.
"People came here every day for breakfast and lunch, I would always say they were solving problems that no one knew about."
The restaurant closed in 2003 and although this is not the original structure a lot of its history still lives on.
Like these brick walls that came from the old building.
"We have Fair Deal restoration and we have the 23 hundred square foot grocery store that answers the food insecurity in this area.”
“There has been no fresh produce for over 40 years."
With no fresh fruit or vegetables for decades these shelves will soon be stocked with produce so neighborhood residents can eat healthier.
"We are not only reviving history but setting out to do new things.”
The vintage brick walls aren’t the only piece of history.
Even past employees are coming back to be a part of its reopening.
