The arctic air in Omaha this week is dangerous for people stuck outside, and why the Salvation Army's Night Watch aims to make a difference.
With temperatures dipping below zero, the Night Watch is out helping supply people with basic essentials to stay warm.
Volunteer Kay Weinstein says its heartbreaking to see children and families out in the cold and as the colder it gets, the more people they will see. Some nights, that number is in the hundreds.
"The demand is just so great," Weinstein said. "We are in desperate need of coats, hats and gloves."
While the Salvation Army accepts everything they can for those in need, as the thermometer continues to drop, they specifically need women's coats, men's extra-large coats, hats and gloves.
