OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- — Old Market business owners hope a new study and project will help fix problems they deal with behind their businesses.
The Omaha City Council approved about $75,000 for the Old Market Alley Project. It will study what they need and pay for some fixes in 7 alleys.
Currently businesses have their own dumpsters and figure out their own snow removal.
They hope to fix the alley roads, possibly improve lighting, consolidate trash and snow removal among other things because the front and back entrances are getting more dilapidated.
Chip Allen, Event Coordinator with Upstream Brewing Company, feels this will help fix the problems they deal with in the alleys.
"There's so many dumpsters at one given point or trash in the area you have to weave in and out, or the snow removal you can't get in there to be able to remove the snow so you got tripping hazards, not being able to get to your entrance of your establishment to be able to get in there and get the equipment that's needed in order to do business appropriately,” Allen explained.
The Downtown Omaha Improvement District says this will work in together with a project that will update front sidewalks in the Old Market.
