OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The University of Nebraska Medical Center celebrated the groundbreaking for a couple of projects Monday: the Wigton Heritage Center and Wittson Hall renovation.

The 10,000 square foot, four level heritage center will celebrate and memorialize UNMC's history while also serving as a campus welcome center. The project will replace existing walkways between Wittson Hall and University Tower. The buildings will be connected through a multi-floor space.

The total cost of the duel project is $26 million.

Construction on Wigton Heritage Center will begin this summer. The project costs $8 million. Funding comes from public and private donors. The $18 million renovation of Wittson Hall is underway. State funding is helping to cover the cost.
