OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Kara Eastman, the CEO of the non-profit Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance, has announced her run for the congressional seat currently held by first-term Republican Don Bacon.

She told 3 News Now her non-profit experience and potential cuts to social services inspired her to run for Bacon's seat in 2018.

"What I've been doing is fighting on the ground for people, talking to them, getting to know what their issues are and then developing programs to meet the needs of people in our community and I think that somebody like that in Congress could do a lot of good," she said.

Eastman said she spoke to potential Democratic rival Brad Ashford after the last election and to her, it sounded like he would not run again.

However, Ashford, who held the 2nd District seat from 2014-2016, told 3 News Now that he and his wife Ann are both still considering running on the Democratic side.
