The Omaha Mayor and Police Chief awarded grants to 27 neighborhood groups Wednesday.

Nearly $75,000 in grants went out this year. The Neighborhood Watch Group and Omaha Coalition of Citizen Patrols received one of the grants worth a little more than $4,000.

The money will help the group unveil a new logo.

"I put in for a grant this year and got it approved, said William Hanes, Secretary of the Omaha Coalition of Citizen Patrols. "And, this year, once we get them made, we'll be going around Omaha and replacing the sign with the new logo."

By providing grants to organizations that partner and support the Omaha Police Department, we are creating important partnerships that keep our neighborhoods safe," said Mayor Jean Stothert.

Aside from public safety, the grants will also support park and playground improvements along with landscaping projects.
