Roderick Burdorf and his wife Terisa were living out of this van with not much to look forward to.

"Frustrating, scared trying to get things where we could make ends meet."

Burdorf served in two wars, he says suffering from PTSD and being homeless has been extremely hard.

"We came from Utah we were homeless for about two months."

The Burdorfs headed to Omaha looking for a better life.

After a couple months they were offered an apartment through veteran housing.

"We had a place, but we had nothing.”

“We thought what are we going to do about furniture?”

Then Moving Veterans Forward came to their aid.

"Once they find a home for a veteran that's homeless, we furnish the entire home with everything they need from bedding to bed, TV, household items, all to that veteran for free."

Providing them with furniture donated by the community it was a lot more than they expected.

"They had dishes, blankets, sheets and towels."

Moving Veterans Forward is made up of volunteer veterans.

They say it's their mission to help other veterans.

"Since 2011 to today we have already moved 820 veterans in Omaha and we have already moved 88 this year."

"I was impressed with the way they treated us, they made sure we had everything we needed."

Off to a great start the couple says they want to be fully independent.

"There is a light at the end of the tunnel we can move forward."
