Omaha Police said a 14-year-old boy died in a crash. Police identify the victim as Kevin Ramirez-Cabrera. Police said the crash happened at 2:25 a.m. at 600 Riverfront Drive which is just to the east of the CenturyLink Center.

The investigation revealed that a silver 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Riverfront Drive at a high rate of speed when its driver lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle struck a metal light pole on the west side of the roadway causing substantial damage to the driver's side of the vehicle.  The unrestrained rear seat passenger was transported by Omaha Fire/Rescue personnel to CHI Creighton University Medical Center with extremely critical injuries sustained in the collision.  He was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.  The driver and front seat passenger (both restrained) did not report any injuries.

OPD said speed is the major contributing factor that led up to this collision that remains under investigation.  Alcohol was not involved.
