Lance Griffin takes over as the new head football coach at Omaha Central. Griffin is a Central alum who was the head coach at Omaha Concordia the past two seasons. He led the Mustangs to their first ever playoff appearance last year and now hopes that success translates to the Eagles.

"The number one thing we're probably working on is mental toughness," Griffin said. "A lot of these guys are physically tough and talented but they had some heartbreaks last year, some tough losses. And so we want to make sure that they're in the game being able to play four quarters of football."

The Eagles return just two starters on offense and three on defense.

"Our offense is going to be way better this year," said quarterback Abraham Hoskins III. "We have new schemes, new techniques. Everybody is learning new things and I just feel like it's going to be a good year for us."

Omaha Central opens the 2017 campaign on Friday at Omaha Burke.
