OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Near the intersection of Millard Ave. and Q Street, you'll find history inside of Shirley's Diner.

On the walls, you'll find momentos from when owners Denise and Doug Fackler were musicians. Denise was a singer, while Doug was a musician. To this day, the couple sometimes performs at the diner.

The former musicians used to perform full-time before purchasing the diner 28 years ago.

"We went from being musicians and getting home at three in the morning to getting up at three in the morning and working 18-hour days," said Denise.

Their love for music and older times is evident throughout their 50's and 60's themed-diner. Each booth has a theme to it, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

Shirley's also has a play area dedicated for kids.

Although appealing to music enthusiasts, Shirley's has become a Millard staple for its big-portioned delicious diner dishes, such as chicken fried steak, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and their daily specials.
One of their most popular dishes is their chicken fried steak. Doug says they stopped keeping track of how many have been prepared at the diner after one million.

While dining at Shirley's, you may consider also trying their famous onion rings. They come in two sizes: colossal or super colossal.

Their menu is reasonable. No food item is over $12.
