SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — Assessment teams from the Sarpy County Planning Department worked through the weekend, looking at communities impacted by flooding.

The initial assessment allowed OPPD to restore power to numerous homes. Some homes haven't been assessed yet, however, because they are still inaccessible. Residents are still unable to access Vencil's Island, Sands Trailer Court and Riha Lakes.

The assessment team attached red, yellow or green placards on each of the homes that were assessed to indicate the results of the initial assessment, a press release from Sarpy County says. If a property is requiring repair work prior to power restoration, property owners can call to request an electrical permit at 402-593-1555 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Sarpy County says floodwaters across the area are likely contaminated with sewage and other hazardous materials. Avoiding these floodwaters is advised.

Team Rubicon, an international nonprofit that helps with disaster relief, is on hand to aid in cleaning homes and properties. To request assistance, call 833-556-2476.
