OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Former Marian High School assistant basketball coach Andrea Lightfoot, 33, was charged in June with first-degree sexual assault of a child after a relationship with a student.

According to court documents the alleged victim was between the ages of 12-16. Our partners at the Omaha World-Herald say it allegedly involved a freshman female basketball player in 2013.

She married in 2017 and became Andrea Knecht.

Marian High School sent the following statement to 3 News Now:

In January 2019, Marian officials learned of a former student's social media post accusing a former part-time coach of sexual assault. Marian immediately reported the allegation to law enforcement for investigation.

Marian recently was informed that the former coach has been charged by the Douglas County Attorney’s office.

The alleged incident occurred in 2013. The individual was employed at Marian as a part-time basketball coach in an adjunct capacity for approximately four months. Records indicate that Marian had no knowledge of any incident during the span of her employment that would have required reporting.

While Marian cannot comment on personnel or student issues specifically, any allegations of sexual misconduct involving either a current or former student are immediately reported to law enforcement.
