LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts submitted written testimony Tuesday regarding his opposition of AM 1381 to LB 289, which proposes the largest tax increase in the state's history.

The Revenue Committee has a hearing on the tax increase proposal scheduled for Wednesday, April 24.

“LB 289, as amended by AM 1381, constitutes the largest tax increase in Nebraska’s history, stripping away $224 million of direct property tax relief for Nebraska families as well as raising hundreds of millions of dollars of new sales taxes on working families for half a billion in new spending,” said Governor Ricketts in his written testimony. “The Legislature must break big government’s spending addiction and the endless cycle of taxing and spending. When you do, Nebraskans will celebrate the Revenue Committee that finally had the vision to fix our broken property tax system.”
