OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — CHI Health is preparing to slowly phase back in elective surgeries after they're allowed on May 4th.

As of Wednesday, CHI hospitals in the Omaha metro area are caring for 21 COVID-19 patients.

As for greater Nebraska patients, CHI is currently caring for 81.

Just like many businesses, CHI has been impacted economically due to the pandemic.

KMTV asked Dr. Cliff Robertson, chief executive officer for CHI, if the hospital staff should be prepared for furloughs or scaled back hours.

“We don't know how long it is going to take for things to return to normal and quiet. Honestly, there is a possibility our health systems will look very different and health care will look very different in the future so we as a health system are preparing for that,” he said.

He added they've reduced compensation for all executive positions and cut back on any extra spending.
