COVID-19 crowd restrictions ruin local wedding plans

OMAHA, Neb. — What was supposed to be the best day of their lives has now turned into something much more disappointing, as many local brides cancel and postpone their weddings because of COVID-19.

Katherine Goodwin still has her wedding scheduled for June 20, but with how rapidly the virus is changing, isn't sure if it will go on as planned.

"I'm 30 years old. My entire life I've dreamed of a wedding and I've worked so hard over the past year to put that together and while I acknowledge that there's way more important things right now, it just hurts," Goodwin said.

Deposits are in and the invitations are made. But for now, and who knows for how long, no large crowds and no dream weddings.

Local venues are feeling the burn as well.

"All of our sources of income rely on either big parties or person to person contact," Vintage Ballroom owner Rebekah Pasqualetto said.

But they too are trying to help couples as much as they can without going under themselves.

"We're trying to be as flexible with all of our clients as we possibly can. Nobody wants to be going through this and we're all kind of going through this together," Pasqualetto said.
