PAPILLION, Neb. (KMTV) — While many of us are staying home right now, parents are surely looking for ways to help their children burn off some of that quarantine energy.
But several cities across the Omaha metro area have closed down their playgrounds and are encouraging parents not to allow their children on the equipment.
Trenton Albers with the City of Papillion said the city made the decision to close its playgrounds along with its tennis, volleyball and basketball courts on Tuesday.
"Originally, we had kind of told people. 'Use them at your own risk.' But you know, the more we saw people out in the parks and the weather's gotten nicer, we really saw those as being high-contact areas," Albers said.
The city has taped off these areas and removed nets to prevent citizens from using any of the equipment.
They're hoping citizens will heed these warnings to prevent any further measures from being taken.
"If we see groups that are gathering that are over 10, the police department's going to come in and break those up and and allow for voluntary compliance before getting to the point of some kind of citation," Albers said.
Luckily, there are plenty of trails and green space to be utilized around the city. Just remember to stay six feet apart and limit gatherings to 10 or less.
