Douglas County announces more than 800 COVID cases

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The Douglas County Health Department announced 820 additional coronavirus cases on Saturday.

Due to the holiday on Friday, the new cases include those that have come in over the previous two days.

The total number of cases in the county since the pandemic began in March is 53,557.

The county said five more residents have passed away from coronavirus, four men from 60 to 80 and a woman in her 80s. The county has lost 489 residents to coronavirus.

The county says 34,766 residents have recovered from coronavirus.

As of Saturday, medical and surgical beds in the county were at 73% occupancy with 407 beds available and adult ICU beds are occupied
at a 63% rate with 125 beds available.

There were 275 individuals hospitalized who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, with 72 of them receiving adult ICU level care. There are also 18 more persons of interest (generally waiting for test results).

Forty individuals who were confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19 were on ventilators.
